A Big, Round Moon
In the middle of Autumn, the moon looks like a giant, glowing pearl in the sky. It is perfectly round!
Hou Yi the Hero
Long ago, there were 10 suns! It was too hot. A brave archer named Hou Yi shot down 9 suns to save the Earth.
A Special Gift
For his bravery, Hou Yi was given a magic potion. If he drank it, he would fly to the stars and live forever!
Up to the Moon
His kind wife, Chang'e, drank the potion to keep it safe. She became light as a feather and floated all the way to the moon!
A Moon Friend
Chang'e wasn't alone. A friendly Jade Rabbit lives on the moon with her, helping her every day.
Look at the Moon!
Every year, when the moon is big and round, we look up and remember Chang'e and the rabbit. We eat round cakes and say hello!

The Hook
Turn off the lights. Use a flashlight to project a "moon" on the wall. Ask: "Who lives on the moon?"

The Problem (Too Hot!)
"Once, there were ten suns. The Earth was like an oven! What did Hou Yi do?"
Prompt kids to pretend they are melting from heat, then mimic drawing a bow.

The Magic Potion
"The Queen Mother gave Hou Yi a potion. It looked like liquid starlight. But Hou Yi wanted to stay on Earth with his wife, Chang'e."
Ask: "If you could fly to the moon, would you go?"

The Transformation
"Chang'e drank the potion to keep it from a bad man. Suddenly... she felt as light as a balloon. Floating... floating... up!"
Encourage students to stand up and move slowly like they are floating in space.
Facilitating the Play
Stage 1: Puppet Building
Help students with cutting as needed (K-motor skills).
Explain that the Jade Rabbit is Chang'e's best friend.
Encourage them to color the moon very bright.
Stage 2: Performance
Divide class into pairs: one Hou Yi, one Chang'e.
Ask the "Chang'e" students to "fly" their puppets toward the projection on the wall.
Ask: "How does Chang'e feel on the moon?"

"Chang'e and Hou Yi miss each other. That's why on the festival night, we look at the moon and eat with our families so we are never alone."

Objective
Students will demonstrate rhythmic synchronization and teamwork through group movement and clapping/rowing.
The Hook
Enter the room beating a drum (or clapping a steady beat). Ask students to copy the beat with their feet.
Preparation
Arrange chairs in two long rows (the "boats"). Attach the Dragon Head to the front chair of each row.
Rhythmic Patterns
Pattern A: The Slow Start
BOOM... BOOM... BOOM...
Instruction: Rowers pull back slowly and deeply. Deep breaths.
Pattern B: The Sprint
BOOM-BOOM-BOOM-BOOM!
Instruction: Fast, short strokes! The finish line is close!

The Loading (Prep):
"Everyone, hop into your dragon boat! Grab your invisible paddle with two hands."

The Drummer's Signal:
Start a slow beat. Students must lean forward and pull back their "paddles" exactly on the beat. If they go too fast, the boat "tips over" (giggles encouraged).

Teamwork Check:
Stop the drum suddenly. If anyone keeps rowing, say "Oh no! We aren't in sync!" Try again to get everyone to stop together.

The Legend of Zongzi
What's Inside?
During the Dragon Boat Festival, we eat a special snack called Zongzi . It's like a tiny, tasty present wrapped in leaves!
Leafy Wrappers
Large, long Bamboo leaves are used to wrap the sticky rice. They keep the rice fresh and make it smell like the forest.
The Pyramid
Zongzi are not round like mooncakes. They are Triangles (or pyramids)! They have sharp corners and flat sides.
