45-Minute Interactive Lesson: Greetings, Feelings & Manners
45 Minutes TPR & Visual Focus
"I Can" Statements
I can greet someone by time of day (morning, afternoon, night).
I can say my name and ask a classmate their name.
I can share 3 feelings: bien (good), feliz (happy), triste (sad).
I can be polite with gracias & de nada.
Target Word Bank
Review Words: ¡Hola! (Hello) • ¡Adiós! (Goodbye) • ¿Cómo te llamas? (What's your name?) • Me llamo (My name is) • ¡Gracias! (Thank you)
New Words: ¡De nada! (You're welcome) • ¿Cómo estás? (How are you?) • Bien 👍 • Feliz 😄 • Triste 😢 • Buenos días ☀️ • Buenas tardes 🌤️ • Buenas noches 🌙
Step-by-Step 45-Minute Roadmap
0 - 8 min
1. Warm-Up & Circle Ball Toss (Repaso / Review)
Toss a soft foam ball. Student catches it and says: "¡Hola! Me llamo [Name], ¿cómo te llamas?". Next student catches and says: "¡Gracias! Me llamo...". Keep it fast, joyful, and supportive!
8 - 20 min
2. Interactive Slides & Movement (TPR: Total Physical Response)
Project the slide deck. Teach TPR actions: Buenos días (stretch tall like morning sun), Buenas tardes (fan self with hand), Buenas noches (fold hands under head like a pillow). Practice facial expressions for ¿Cómo estás? (Bien / Feliz / Triste).
20 - 33 min
3. Guided Practice: "Charla Entre Amigos" Activity Sheet
Distribute the student worksheet. Students match times of day, label emotion faces, and fill in the Paco & Lola comic dialogue. Have them read the mini-dialogue aloud with their desk partner and color their achievement stars.
33 - 40 min
4. Movement Game: "Simón Dice" (Simon Says Greetings)
Call out commands: "Simón dice: ¡Feliz!" (huge smile), "Simón dice: ¡Buenas noches!" (pretend to snore), "Choca las manos y di: ¡De nada!". Great brain break that reinforces learning.
40 - 45 min
5. Formative Check & Full-Page Exit Ticket (No Cutting Needed)
Hand out the full-page Exit Ticket. Students check times of day, feelings, and polite words without any scissors or prep needed. Stamp each student's page at the door as they wave and say: "¡Adiós!".
Kid-Friendly Tip
Remind students that Buenos días uses Buenos (masculine, like "el día"), while Buenas tardes / noches use Buenas.
ESL / Support Strategy
Keep pictures or visual cue cards visible. Allow non-verbal gestures (thumbs up, smiling, pointing to sun/moon) as valid stepping stones before oral production.
