Lesson 1: The Magic of Isolation
Can you move just one part?
The Wake Up Game
"Imagine your whole body is fast asleep... except for your toes!"
Wiggle Hands
Wiggle Toes
Wiggle Nose
The Secret Word: Isolation
Isolation means:
Moving ONE part while the rest stays STILL.
Think Like a Robot:
Can you move your shoulder without moving your head?
Game Time: Body Part Glue!
01
Teacher calls out a body part (like "Elbow!")
02
Glue that part to the floor or wall.
03
Try to wiggle everything else while the glue stays stuck!
Great Job, Technicians!
Today we learned:
Moving parts separately
Staying still like a statue
Listening to our brain signals
Final Challenge:
"Can you blink only your left eye?"

Lesson 1: Isolation
Learning Objective
Students will identify major body parts and demonstrate the ability to move a single body part independently while maintaining stillness in the rest of the body.
Time: 30-40 min
Warm-up: 5 min
Instruction: 10 min
Activities: 15 min
Cool-down: 5 min
1
The Hook: The Sleeping Body
Invite students to lie down on their backs in "sleeping pose." Challenge them to "wake up" specific body parts one by one. Use a soft, quiet voice to maintain the atmosphere.
"Your brain is sending a secret message just to your LEFT PINKY. Can you wake it up while your legs and arms stay fast asleep?"
2
Direct Instruction: Defining Isolation
Explain that dancers use "Isolation" to tell specific stories or make cool shapes. Introduce the robot analogy.
Key Cue:
"Keep your core (tummy) strong so it doesn't wiggle when your arm moves."
Common Error:
Students moving their whole torso when trying to isolate a shoulder.
3
Guided Practice: Body Part Glue
This game builds kinesthetic awareness. Call out a part and a location.
"Glue your right knee to the floor!"
"Glue your nose to the wall!" (ensure safety)
"Glue your back to the floor!"
While glued, ask them to "dance" with only their free parts.
Success Criteria
Student can name the part they are moving. Student can maintain stillness in at least 3 other major body parts while isolating.
Differentiation
Support: Use physical touch (light tap on the shoulder) to help them focus on that part. Challenge: Try to isolate TWO parts at once (left foot and right hand).

Lesson 2: Stability
Learning Objective
Students will demonstrate foundational balance techniques by engaging their core muscles, using horizontal arm extensions for stability, and maintaining a focal point for 5+ seconds.
Focal Point
Eyes Still = Body Still
1
The Hook: Statue Garden
Play music and have students dance. When music stops, they must freeze like a statue. Walk around and "check" statues by gently blowing on them to see if they wobble.
"Wow, this statue is so strong! I wonder if she is squeezing her tummy muscles to stay that way?"
2
Technique: Airplane Arms & Eye Focus
Explain that our eyes act as anchors. If our eyes move, our body moves.
Airplane Arms: Keep them "thick" and strong, not "thin" and floppy.
Eye Focus: Pick a sticker on the wall or a spot and "glue" your eyes to it.
Pro-Tip:
Tell students to "hug their tummy" from the inside. This is a great cue for core engagement.
3
The Challenge: The Stork Stand
Introduce the one-legged balance. Ensure they aren't leaning to the side.
Progression 1:
Balance on two feet with eyes closed (removes visual anchor).
Progression 2:
Lifting one heel, then one toe, then full stork stand.

Lesson 3: Footwork
Learning Objective
Students will distinguish between "flex" and "point" foot positions and demonstrate ankle strength by walking on tiptoes for a sustained duration (relevé prep).
Creative Visualization
1
The Hook: Paintbrushes
Sit in a circle with legs extended. Tell students their feet have been dipped in magic paint.
"Point your toes to paint a dot on the floor! Now flex them to paint a dot on the ceiling!"
2
Activity: The Giant & The Mouse
Contrast flat feet with tiptoes.
The Giant (Flat Feet):
Heavy, loud marches. Focus on landing "flat" and flexing toes up when lifting the leg.
The Mouse (Tiptoes):
Quiet, high walks. Keep heels high off the floor. "Don't let the mouse's tail get stepped on!"
3
Technical Cues: The Articulated Foot
Watch for "sickling" (toes turning inward). Encourage "long toes" when pointing.
Check for Understanding:
"If I say 'TOES TO THE SKY', what do you do?" (Flex!)
"If I say 'LONG TOES', what do you do?" (Point!)
Observational Assessment
Can the student hold tiptoes (relevé) while moving forward?
Is there a visible difference between their flex and point?
Are they able to isolate foot movement from the rest of the leg?

Lesson 4: Bouncy Bunny Landing
Can you land silently?
How Bunnies Land
Bunnies have big, strong ears, but their secret is in their Bouncy Knees!
"Never land with straight legs—that's for pencils!"
The Motorcycle Landing
Step 1: Bend
Before you jump, bend your knees!
Step 2: Reach

Step 3: SQUISH

Lesson 4: Jumping
Learning Objective
Students will demonstrate safe jumping mechanics by performing a 'plié' (bend) before launching and upon landing, prioritizing a silent, controlled landing over jump height.
Safety First
1
The Hook: Marshmallow Feet
Ask students: "If you were made of glass, how would you land?" Contrast this with "Marshmallow Feet."
"The floor is a giant ear. It's listening to see if you can land without making a sound!"
2
Activity: Motorcycle Landings
Use the visualization of holding onto motorcycle handles to encourage a deep bend and forward weight.
Bend (Plié): "Start in your garage (bend knees)."
Vroom (Launch): "Push the floor away!"
Brake (Landing): "SQUEEZE the brakes and bend deep!"
Common Correction:
Landing with "locked" (straight) knees. If you see this, have them practice *just* the landing position without the jump first.
3
Practice: Bunny Hops
Move across the floor.
Two-Foot Hops:
Focus on heels touching the floor upon landing (don't stay on tiptoes for landing).
One-Foot Hops:
Keep 'airplane arms' out for balance. Bend even deeper on one leg!

Can the class perform 3 jumps in a row where the teacher hears ZERO thumps?
