FINAL TEST
Answer Keys & Tips
Assessment Keys
Flash Check Quiz
1.A, 2.Aperture/Shutter/ISO, 3.Rule of Thirds, 4.True, 5.Lines guiding the eye.
Master Shot Test
1.C, 2.B, 3.B, 4.T, 5.F, 6.T, 7.T, 8.Aperture/Sharpness, 9.Clutter reduction, 10.Distance, 11.Color.
Instructional Tips
The Bucket Analogy
Exposure = Filling a bucket. Aperture is tap size, Shutter is time, ISO is bucket size. Visualizing these as physical volume helps retention.
SOOC Practice
Ensure students practice SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) on Day 1 & 2 before introducing the data flexibility of RAW on Day 3.
Final Assessment Note
The reflection question (Q12) on the Master Shot test evaluates conceptual maturity. Encourage specific examples of "seeing" (e.g., noticing leading lines in sidewalk cracks or frames in windows).

Mastering the Art of Photography
Day 1-4
Core Principles
The Root of the Image
Photography literally means "Drawing with Light."
Without light, there is no image. Light reveals detail, sets the mood, and defines form.
The Three Facets of Light
01
Brightness
The intensity of the source.
02
Contrast
The range between light and dark.
03
Color Temp
Warm (Golden) vs. Cool (Blue).
The Exposure Triangle
Aperture
The "Eye"
Controls depth of field and light volume. f-stops.
Shutter
The "Blink"
Controls motion blur and duration. Fractions.
ISO
The "Sensitivity"
The sensor's sensitivity level. Numbers.
Technical Control
Metering
The camera's method of evaluating light to determine the best exposure settings.
Spot • Evaluative • Center
The Viewfinder
The window used to compose an image.
Optical (DSLR)
Electronic (Mirrorless)
Rule of Thirds
Divide your frame into a 3x3 Grid.
"Place subjects along lines or at intersections for balance."
Leading Lines
Use paths or lines to guide the viewer's eye toward your subject.
Framing
Use archways or windows to create a "frame within a frame."
Types of Lenses
Prime
Fixed focal length. No zoom.
Zoom
Variable focal length lens.
Wide-Angle
Captures a wide field of view.
Telephoto
Long focal length; subject looks closer.
Artistic Concepts
Depth of Field
The area that appears sharp. Shallow vs Large.
Bokeh
Aesthetic quality of out-of-focus blur.
Golden Hour
Soft, warm lighting shortly after sunrise or before sunset.
Speak Like a Pro
RAW
All data from sensor. No processing.
SOOC
"Straight Out Of Camera." Unedited.
BLOWN
Overexposed; pure white, no detail.
BRACKET
Multiple shots; different exposures.

III. Creative Challenge
The Hiker Scenario
You are photographing a lone hiker on a mountain path. You want to show the vastness of the mountain (Empty Space) while drawing the viewer's eye directly to the hiker.
Which two compositional techniques would you combine? Explain why.
IV. Vocabulary Match
1 Golden Hour
2 Bokeh
3 White Balance
4 Metering
Quality of out-of-focus blur.
Evaluating light for exposure.
Adjusting color temperature.
Warm light near sunrise/sunset.
Focus Flashcards Worksheet Focus Flashcards
Set 01 • The Exposure Triangle
Construction:
Fold vertical center line. Glue & cut.
Term
Aperture
Definition
The lens opening that controls how much light enters. Measured in f-stops (e.g., f/1.8). Lower number = wider opening = more light.
Term
Shutter Speed
Definition
The duration the sensor is exposed to light. Fast (1/1000s) freezes motion; slow (1s) creates motion blur.
Term
ISO
Definition
The sensor's sensitivity to light. Low ISO (100) for bright light; High ISO (3200) for dark conditions.
Term
Exposure
Definition
The total amount of light that reaches the camera sensor. Managed by the "Triangle" of settings.
Term
Metering
Definition
The camera's method of evaluating light to determine best settings (e.g., spot, evaluative, center-weighted).
Term
Viewfinder
Definition
The window used to compose an image. Can be optical (DSLR) or electronic (mirrorless).
Focus Flashcards
Set 02 • Components & Lenses
Term
Prime Lens
Definition
A lens with a fixed focal length (no zoom). Often sharper and lighter than zoom lenses.
Term
Zoom Lens
Definition
A lens with a variable focal length, allowing you to get closer to or further from subjects without moving.
Term
Telephoto
Definition
A lens with a long focal length that makes distant subjects look closer. Narrow field of view.
Term
Wide-angle
Definition
A lens that captures a wide field of view. Ideal for landscapes and expansive scenes.
Term
Light
Definition
The fundamental element of photography. Sets mood and reveals detail via brightness and contrast.
Term
Bokeh
Definition
The aesthetic quality of out-of-focus, blurred parts of an image, often appearing as soft light shapes.
Focus Flashcards
Set 03 • Concepts & Composition
Term
DoF
Definition
Depth of Field: The area of a photo that appears sharp, ranging from shallow to large.
