Lesson 1: Identifying Body Parts for Movement
Objective
Students will identify, isolate, and name body parts used for specific movements (knees for bending/jumping, arms for balance).
Key Vocabulary
• Isolate
• Balance
• Bend
• Swing
Teaching Tips
Mirroring: Face the students and move your body parts clearly. Use exaggerated motions.
Verbal Cues: Always say the part name clearly and encourage students to repeat it while touching it.
Space: Ensure students have a "personal bubble" (arms length) so they don't bump into peers.
Simon Says: Movement Script
Round 1: Isolation
"Simon says... reach high with your fingers ! Simon says... touch your elbows ! Simon says... wiggle your shoulders !"
Round 2: Movement Prep
"Simon says... bend your knees ! Simon says... stand on your tiptoes ! Simon says... spread your arms like wings!"
Round 3: The Trick
"Simon says... touch your nose ! Now touch your knees ! (Wait for students to catch the error—Simon didn't say it!)"
Support
Use physical prompts by gently pointing to the student's body part if they are struggling to identify it.
Challenge
Ask students to name a part that "bends" or "swings" without giving them the name first.

Lesson 2: Walking and Running Speeds
Space Needs
Open gym or cleared classroom area. Mark a "Start" and "Finish" line with tape.
Materials
Red, Yellow, Green cards or a music player for 'Freeze Dance' variation.
Key Skills
• Speed Modulation
• Spatial Awareness
• Impulse Control
Game 1: Red Light, Green Light
Green Light: Students run quickly (but safely) toward the finish line.
Yellow Light: Students walk in slow motion like turtles.
Red Light: Students freeze exactly where they are. No wiggling!
Teacher Prompt: "Check your personal bubbles! Are you touching anyone? Move away if your bubble is about to pop!"
Game 2: Animal Speed March
Turtle Speed
Exaggerated slow steps, lifting knees high but moving forward slowly.
Elephant Speed
Heavy, stomping steps at a medium pace. Swing 'trunk' arms.
Bunny Speed
Fast, short little pitter-patter steps on the balls of the feet.
Cheetah Speed
High-speed running. Remind students to 'look where they are going'.
Safety First
• "Eyes forward!"
• "Airplane arms for balance!"
• "Soft feet - no thumping!"
• "Respect the bubble!"

Balance Booster Guide
Static Balance, Core Stability & Pose Control
The 'Why'
Pre-K learners are developing vestibular balance and core stability. Holding steady poses builds the muscle foundation needed for leaping, landing, and coordinated locomotion.
Teacher Verbal Cues
Eyes front: "Find a quiet sticker on the wall to look at."
Tight tummy: "Make your belly strong like a hard turtle shell."
Wings out: "Spread your fingers wide like airplane wings."
Pose Library
Flamingo Pose 1 Foot
One knee lifted high, toes pointed down, hands steady on hips or out wide.
Airplane Glide Tilt & Fly
Stand on one leg, lean trunk forward slightly, arms spread straight and flat.
Tree Statue Rooted
Sole of foot resting against opposite ankle (kickstand), palms gently pressed together.
Pre-K Active Balance Games
3 Whole-Group Games
1
Beanbag Walk
Place a beanbag atop each child's head. Students walk slowly along tape lines on the floor. If it slips, they must freeze into a statue before resetting.
Posture & slow pace
2
Statue Museum
One student or teacher acts as the "Night Watchman." When the watchman turns around, all students instantly freeze into a balance pose and hold completely still!
Impulse control
3
Monster Freeze Dance
Play music as students dance around. When the music stops, call out a pose: "Flamingo Monster!" Students must freeze in that pose for a 5-second count!
Rapid static balance
Support ("Kickstand")
Allow students to rest toes lightly on the floor, keep one hand on a wall/chair back, or widen their stance to build confidence before lifting a full foot.
Challenge ("Windy Day")
Challenge students to hold poses on a soft gym mat, gently flap their airplane wings, or try closing one eye while maintaining their balance for 4 counts.

Lesson 4: Jumping Mechanics & Landing Safety
Mechanics
Phase 1: Preparation
Deep knee bend, arms swing back.
Phase 2: Flight
Full extension of hips/knees/ankles. Reach up!
Phase 3: Landing
Bent knees, flat feet, "quiet feet."
Landing Checklist
Knees stay aligned over toes (no caving in)
Weight is on the balls of the feet first
Land quietly ("Silent like a cloud")
Jump Drills
Lily Pad Leap
Use hula hoops or tape circles as lily pads. Students must leap from one to another, sticking the landing inside each one.
Volcano Eruption
Students crouch low (lava buildup). On your signal "ERUPT!", they jump as high as possible and land safely.
Common Errors
• Jumping on flat/stiff legs (Ouch!)
• Looking down at feet (Loss of balance)
• Landing on heels (Too loud/hard)

Lesson 5: Obstacle Course Setup & Management
Station Setup
Station 1: The Winding Trail
Tape a zig-zag line on the floor. Students must walk (turtle speed) then run (cheetah speed) when the line straightens.
Station 2: Log Crossing
Lay a jump rope or thin bench on the floor. Students walk across, stopping in the middle to perform a 3-second 'Flamingo' pose.
Station 3: Sticky Mud Pit
Place 3 hula hoops or tape circles. Students must jump into each and 'stick' the landing before moving to the next.
Flow & Timing
• Pulse Check: Start as a whole group to model each station.
• Spacing: Release 2 students at a time to avoid crowding (maintain 'personal bubbles').
• Rotation: 3-5 minutes per station if doing as centers, or continuous flow for 15 minutes.
Narrative Cues
"We're crossing the deep river! Stay on the log!"
"The mud is very sticky here, jump hard to get out!"
"The jungle is quiet now... walk like a soft-footed panther."
Observation Checklist
Can modulate speed (Fast vs Slow)
Maintains 'Personal Bubble' awareness
Holds balance for at least 3 seconds
Lands jumps with bent knees (soft feet)
Demonstrates core stability in poses
Sequences movements without prompting
End the lesson with a 'Cool Down' stretch and the medal presentation.
