"Being a student-athlete is a privilege, not a right. In our athletic program, we build champions in the classroom first and competitors on the field second. Excellence is our standard in both arenas."
Academic Standards & UIL Progression
In accordance with State and University Interscholastic League (UIL) guidelines, grades will be strictly monitored. Below is the mandatory athletic intervention pathway for any student-athlete who falls below a 70% in any class:
LEVEL 1 First UIL Fail
Official Warning Period
The student-athlete receives an official department warning. Mandatory bi-weekly academic progress checks are initiated immediately.
LEVEL 2 Second UIL Fail
Academic Probation
Immediate suspension from competitive play. The athlete must attend mandatory study halls and continue tracking bi-weekly academic progress.
LEVEL 3 Third UIL Fail
Program Dismissal
Removal from the athletic period and rosters. The student will be returned to regular physical education or scheduled out of athletics.
Behavioral & Team Expectations
Classroom Integrity: Follow all school rules, respect teachers, and maintain a high standard of classroom behavior. Referrals may result in athletic suspension.
Effort & Attendance: Give 100% effort in every practice and game. Excused absences must be communicated with coaches directly prior to standard practice times.
Character & Leadership: Represent the program with sportsmanship. Refrain from unsportsmanlike conduct, bullying, or negative social media behavior.
Academic Ownership: Attend tutorial sessions if grade checks show any mark below 75%. Be proactive before a failing grade is posted.
Athletic Department Commitment Pledge
By signing below, we acknowledge that we have read, understood, and agreed to the academic, athletic, and behavioral policies of the Middle School Athletic Department. We understand the UIL failure progression and promise to work collaboratively with coaches and teachers to achieve excellence.

MEMORANDUM
TO: Parents & Guardians of Middle School Student-Athletes
FROM: Head Coach & Athletics Director
August 2026
Subject: Academic Excellence Policy
Dear Athletic Families,
Welcome to Middle School Athletics! Our athletic program is dedicated to ensuring academic success. In our program, we define a champion by effort, behavior, and excellence in the classroom first and on the field second.
To make academic achievement a shared standard, we are enforcing our structured Academic Accountability Policy . It is designed to act as an early intervention system to assist student-athletes who may be struggling academically, rather than simply penalizing them.
STEP 1
1st UIL Fail: Official Program Warning
The athlete remains eligible to practice and compete but receives a formal warning. They are placed on a bi-weekly grade tracker that must be signed by teachers and guardians.
STEP 2
2nd UIL Fail: Academic Probation & Suspension
The athlete is placed on Academic Probation and suspended from competitive play. They must attend mandatory after-school athletic study halls and continue bi-weekly grade tracking.
STEP 3
3rd UIL Fail: Athletic Program Removal
Consistent failure to meet school standards will result in removal from the athletic period and rosters. The student will be scheduled out of athletics and returned to physical education.
Furthermore, we require all student-athletes to participate in our Bi-Weekly Academic Progress Tracker . It is the student's responsibility to have this tracker completed by their teachers and signed by you every two weeks.
How You Can Support Your Student-Athlete:
Regularly check the district's online grade portal to monitor weekly assignments.
Review and sign the Bi-Weekly Progress Tracker returned by your athlete.
Encourage communication with teachers and attendance at morning or afternoon tutorials.
Acknowledgement Tear-Off Slip
(Return to Head Coach by Friday of Week 1)
I have read and discussed the Champion Academic Excellence Policy and UIL Progression Pathway with my child. I understand the responsibilities of my student-athlete and agree to help monitor their academic progress.
