Instructional Steps
1 Introduction & Hook
10 Minutes
Begin by discussing the Olympics and what they represent (global unity, excellence, perseverance). Use the Olympic Collage Slides to show pictures of various sports. Ask students if they have a favorite sport or know of any famous Olympic athletes.
2 The Big Discussion
10 Minutes
Explore the different types of sports seen at the Olympics. Use the following prompts:
- What sports do you see in the Summer vs the Winter Olympics?
- Why do you think athletes train so hard for this specific event?
- How do you think an athlete feels when they win a medal?
3 Collage-Making Activity
30 Minutes
Distribute the Olympic Planner Worksheet first to help students organize their thoughts. Once planned, provide the poster boards and magazines. Instruct students to cut out images, arrange them, and glue. Encourage using markers for borders and labels.
4 Reflection & Gallery Walk
10 Minutes
Have students present their collages. Ask them to explain why they chose certain sports and what they learned about the Olympic spirit during the process.
