Part 1: The Birth of Nicktoons (1991)
During the 1980s, the cable network Nickelodeon aired mostly live-action shows, game shows, and old imported cartoons. A forward-thinking TV executive named Vanessa Coffey wanted Nickelodeon to produce its own fresh, original animated series made exclusively for kids.
On August 11, 1991, television history was made when the network launched its first three original cartoons, known as "Nicktoons":

Part 2: The Burbank Studio Home (1998)
At first, Nickelodeon hired outside independent studios to animate its series. Because the shows became massive cultural hits, Nickelodeon decided it was time to build its own dedicated creative headquarters.
In 1998, they officially opened the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, California. Designed to celebrate playful creativity, the vibrant 72,000-square-foot facility featured bright orange ironwork, a miniature golf course on the lawn, custom artist benches, and an iconic fountain spraying green water modeled after Nickelodeon's famous green slime!
Part 3: Blockbuster Shows & Global Impact
With their own state-of-the-art facility, the studio produced groundbreaking animated series that captured audiences worldwide:
