1 Warm-Up: How Do You Feel Today?
5 MINUTES
Start by gathering the children. Use a warm, inviting tone.
"Good morning, everyone! Today, we are going to talk about something super important: our feelings ! Feelings are how we feel inside. We all have feelings, and it's okay to feel happy, sad, angry, or surprised!"
"Now, in your small groups, I want you to look at your friends. How do you feel right now? Can you show your group members with your face how you are feeling? Maybe you're happy to be here! Show your group a happy face!"
Pause for student responses and participation within groups. Encourage them to mimic happy faces to each other.
"Great job, everyone! Let's get ready to learn more about feelings in English and Chinese, and we'll practice with our groups!"

Slide 3: Happy! 开心 (kāi xīn)
"Look at this face! What feeling do you think this is? Yes! This is happy ! In Chinese, happy is 开心 (kāi xīn). Can you all say happy? ... And now, 开心 (kāi xīn)?"
Slide 4: Sad! 伤心 (shāng xīn)
"Oh no, this face looks different. This is sad . In Chinese, sad is 伤心 (shāng xīn). Can you all say sad? ... And now, 伤心 (shāng xīn)?"

Distribute card sets to each small group. Circulate as they work.
"Now it's time for an activity! Each group will get a set of feeling cards, and you'll work together to match the feelings!"
"In your groups, look at one of the feeling faces. What feeling is this face showing? Say the English word, and then the Chinese word! Yes, it's happy ! And in Chinese? 开心 (kāi xīn)!"
