1. Mission Briefing (10 mins): Use slide deck to introduce the staff. Review bottom-to-top reading. Teach FACE for spaces and EGBDF for lines.
2. Sample Solve (5 mins): Perform guided decoding of "CAB" together. Show how to identify note head position systematically.
3. Undercover Work (20 mins): Students complete the 50-note decoding worksheet independently or in pairs. Walk the room to check.
4. Vault Debrief (10 mins): Review answers together as a class. Students write down their score out of 50 total notes.
INTEL: MISCONCEPTIONS
Top-to-Bottom: Students often count down from the top line. Remind them that music notes are always numbered upward from line 1.
Line/Space Confusion: Check if lines run directly through the note (Line), or if it sits between two lines (Space).
C4 Ledger Line: Middle C (C4) has its own mini horizontal line. Remind them it represents a physical line that is temporarily added.
