Actionable Learning Target
"I can keep my body inside my own personal 'space bubble' and freeze instantly like a floating star on the drum beat."
Actionable Character Target
"I can show self-control and active **concern** for my crewmates' safety by keeping my eyes up and staying three steps away."
MISSION OVERVIEW
Students transform into "Space Commanders" to explore and conquer the two zones of physical safety: Self-Space (personal bubble) and General Space (the shared galaxy) . Through interactive games, they establish clear movement signals.
FLIGHT GOALS
• Establish personal "Space Bubbles".
• Navigate general space safely.
• Freeze instantly on drum cue.
FLIGHT TIMELINE: PHASE 1 & 2
Phase 1: Launch Sequence & Warm-Up (10 min)
00:00 - 00:10
Begin in a circle sitting down. Introduce the studio as a "Launchpad." Teach primary safety cue: The Freeze Drum (tap means freeze; double tap means sit).
"Welcome, Commanders! To fly safely, we must activate Space Shields. Stand up slowly. Spread your arms wide... can you touch anyone? If yes, take steps backward until you are in your own empty region."
Phase 2: Space Bubble Activation (10 min)
00:10 - 00:20
Teach the physical concept of the Self-Space Bubble . Have students inflate their invisible shields.
Level 1 (Low Space):
Melt, twist, shrink, and expand within that single spot.
Level 2 (High Space):
Reach tall, stretch wide, jump lightly but stick the landing without moving.

FLIGHT TIMELINE: PHASE 3 & 4
Phase 3: The Shared Galaxy - General Space Navigation (15 min)
00:20 - 00:35
Introduce General Space (the collective galaxy) . Explain that to navigate the galaxy safely, we must never let our Space Bubbles bump or burst.
Game: Astro-Navigation (Continuous Practice)
Level 1 (Asteroid Drift): Students walk in slow motion in general space. When the drum beats, they must freeze on their personal "landing spot" (can use spot markers or designated quadrants).
Level 2 (Meteor Speed-Up): Increase tempo to a light march/trot. If two students drift too close, they must stop, bow, and take 3 steps away to recalibrate.
Level 3 (Supernova Jump): Introduce leap or jump. Remind students of the Safe Landing rule : Soft bent knees, arms controlled, and immediate balance control.
Phase 4: Mission Debrief & De-presurization (10 min)
00:35 - 00:45
Slowly guide commanders back to their initial circle using deep breathing space relaxation exercises.
Cool Down Sequence:
"Commanders, begin to slowly deflate your Space Shields. Breathe in... arms reach up to the cosmic clouds. Breathe out... let your arms drift down like floating stardust. Sit quietly on your launching pad. Rest your hands on your knees."
Observational Rubric
Excellent: Complete body control, holds freezes instantly, actively steers away from others.
Developing: Occasional physical bumps; takes 1-2 beats extra to freeze on drum signal.
Flight Adjustments
• For extra energy: Introduce locomotor variations (galloping, sliding) as "comets".
• For sensory bounds: Use colored poly spots as permanent anchor sites for each commander.

STUDIO EXPECTATIONS
Launch Into Safe & Creative Dancing!
1. LAUNCHPAD READY
Enter the studio quietly, find your starting space immediately, and lock in focus.
2. SPACE BUBBLE ON
Keep an invisible shield around your body. Never let your shield clash or collide with others.
3. COSMIC CONTROL
Listen for the sound cues. Freeze instantly like a floating star when the music halts.
4. NEBULA RESPECT
Support your crew! Celebrate every commander's movements with encouraging energy.

Know Your Zones, Guide Your Movements!
SELF-SPACE
"My Personal Bubble"
The immediate space surrounding your body. It moves with you but stays centered only on you!
COMMANDS TO TRY:
Melt low, stretch tall, twist tight
Grow into a giant star in place
No traveling or walking away!
GENERAL SPACE
"The Shared Galaxy"
The entire open dance floor area that all space commanders share to travel and slide through!
COMMANDS TO TRY:
Travel in curvy lines, zigzags, circles
Fill in the "empty patches" of the floor
Keep safe distance from other ships!

SAFETY PRINCIPLES 02 / 06
SPATIAL GUIDELINES
WHAT IS SELF-SPACE?
"My Personal Spatial Bubble"
Self-space is the safe, clean area immediately around your physical body. It moves when you shift, but it always belongs to you alone!
Keep arms extended to make a full 360° shield
Move low, high, wide without traveling away
Do not leave your launching spot!
PERSONAL BOUNDARIES 03 / 06
SPATIAL GUIDELINES
WHAT IS GENERAL SPACE?
"The Shared Galaxy"
General space is the entire open floor that we all share. It's the galaxy we travel through together in curved lines, circles, and swift paths!
Travel to all empty spaces of the room
Avoid close clusters of other rocket ships
Never pop or crash another commander's bubble!
SHARED NAVIGATION 04 / 06
GAME PRACTICE
ASTRO-NAVIGATION DEPLOYMENT
1
EXPLORE SPACE
Travel silently across the whole galaxy using different pathways. Avoid physical contacts.
2
FREEZE ON SIGNAL
When the drum sounds or the music stops, instantly freeze like an ice planet. Do not wobble.
3
RE-CALIBRATE
If your bubble is popped or bumped, take 3 steps away and inflate your shield again.
ACTIVE EXPLORATION GAME 05 / 06
MISSION DEBRIEF
POWERING DOWN
De-pressurization Process
As safe space commanders, we must slow our engines. Power down your systems gently.
Take three deep, cosmic breaths
Deflate your bubble shields completely
Rest safely and quietly on your personal landing pad

Actionable Learning Target
"I can design and perform a 16-count traveling sequence that contrasts straight, curved, and zigzag pathways across three levels."
Actionable Character Target
"I can show active **concern** for my crewmates' creative contributions by listening to their ideas and timing my movements to match."
MISSION OVERVIEW
Dancers level-up to become Galactic Pilots . Instead of just dodging collisions, 4th and 5th-grade students analyze complex flight structures, mapping specific straight, zigzag, and curved pathways.
FLIGHT GOALS
• Contrast 3 path geometries.
• Shift through 3 spatial levels.
• Design a 16-count crew sequence.
FLIGHT TIMELINE: PHASE 1 & 2
Phase 1: Pilot Briefing & Velocity Test (10 min)
00:00 - 00:10
Begin in a scatter formation. Review self-space and general space briefly, then elevate the challenge by introducing Velocity Gears (1-5) .
Gear 1: Cosmic Drift (extreme slow motion) • Gear 3: Cruising Orbit (controlled walk) • Gear 5: Warp (jumps/leaps).
Phase 2: Pathway Vector Explorations (10 min)
00:10 - 00:20
Pilots explore geometric travel pathways through general space on command. Introduce the 3 vital pathways:
Straight (Linear Vector):
Direct lines. Sharp 90° turns.
Zig-Zag (Asteroid Belt):
Sharp, diagonal slices. Low knees.
Curved (Gravitational):
Smooth loops and spirals.
