Lesson Roadmap
1
Introduction: Feelings & Beats
5 MIN
- Opening Hook: Discuss how emotions feel in the body (e.g., "Where do you feel 'happy' in your legs?").
- Concept: Explain that just as our voices change when we feel different ways, music uses "rhythms" to talk to our feelings.
- Quick Practice: Play 2-3 short snippets. Ask: "If this sound was a face, what face would it be making?"
2
The Harmony Hop Activity
10 MIN
- The Challenge: "Listen to the beat. Let your body move the way the music feels. There is no wrong way to hop!"
- Implementation: Play a rhythm (e.g., a fast, bouncy drum beat). Students hop or dance. Stop the music and change to a slow, heavy beat. Observe the change in movement.
- Variety: Use at least 4 distinct rhythms: Fast/High, Slow/Low, Jerky/Sharp, and Smooth/Flowing.
3
Circle Reflection
5 MIN
- Share: Which rhythm was the most fun to move to? Why?
- Analyze: "Which one felt 'angry'? What did your feet do during that beat?"
- Takeaway: Movement and music are tools we can use to share our feelings without even saying a word.
