Ask students: "If you lived in a dense forest, how could you tell a friend 'Hello' or 'Dinner's ready' from miles away?" Discuss the Talking Drum's role in communication.

Direct Instruction: Djembe & Geography (10 mins)
Use the Slides to show the Djembe. Emphasize the materials: Wood (trees), Goat Skin (animals), Rope . This connects geography to instrument creation. Explain the 3 sounds (Bass, Tone, Slap).
Teacher Tip: If you don't have drums, use desks. Hitting the center = Bass. Hitting the edge = Tone. Finger-tips snap = Slap.

Gather students at a piano or keyboard. Play a simple melody using only the black keys. Ask: "Where does this music sound like it's from?" Explain that many Chinese melodies use this 5-note sound.

Show the Erhu and Pipa on the Slides . Play listening clips for each. Encourage students to use descriptive words: "scratchy," "sweet," "clear," "bouncy."

Connect to geometry: "What do we call a shape with 5 sides? (Pentagon). In music, a 5-note scale is Pentatonic." Have students count out the notes C-D-E-G-A on their fingers.

Guide students through the construction process. Safety Tip: Help with scissors as needed.
