Understanding diverse art careers helps students connect their creativity to future possibilities, fostering self-expression and appreciation for the arts in the world around them.
Learning Objective
Students will identify at least three different careers artists pursue and describe how artists contribute to society.

Teacher Preparation
Time: 15 minutes
- Review the slides and practice the presentation.
- Print worksheet copies for each student.
- Gather and organize all art supplies.
- Set up the projector and test visuals.
Lesson Instructions

Introduction & Hook

Engage: Begin by asking students: "What comes to mind when you hear the word 'artist'?" and "What kind of art do artists make?"
Record answers on the whiteboard. Explain that today they will explore different types of artists and how their work impacts the world.

Exploring Artist Careers
15 MIN
Present: Use the slides to introduce careers: painter, sculptor, illustrator, graphic designer, animator, fashion designer, architect, game designer, chef.
Discuss: Briefly explain what they do and ask students where they have seen this kind of art in their daily lives.

Art Career Exploration Worksheet
15 MIN
Distribute: Hand out the worksheet to each student.
Instruct: Students choose 2-3 careers to explore. They should write/draw what those artists create and where we see their art. Circulate and provide creative support.

My Art Career Activity
15 MIN
Imagine: Students draw themselves as an artist in their chosen career using drawing paper and supplies.
Write: They should include a sentence or two describing their art and how it helps or affects others. Play light, inspiring music while they work.

Share & Reflect
5 MIN
Invite a few students to share their drawings and descriptions. Conclude by reinforcing that everyone has creativity within them and art is diverse and valuable.
