ESL Pronunciation Key: -teen vs. -ty

Syllable Stress

Native English speakers listen for WHERE your voice is loudest (syllable stress):

Teens (13–19) → Stress END

The voice rises on -TEEN:

thir-TEEN (13)

four-TEEN (14)

fif-TEEN (15)

Tens (30–90) → Stress FRONT

The voice rises on the first part:

THIR-ty (30)
