"I'm going to play a clip. Don't worry about understanding every word. Just try to count how many distinct words you think are being spoken. Ready?"
Pro Tip: Use a clip from a 73 Questions interview (Vogue) or a fast-talking YouTuber like Casey Neistat. Students usually undercount by 30-40%.

If you cannot find specific clips, you can read these scripts aloud at a natural, fast pace. Do not slow down for the students!

The "Wrong Register" Game
As an extension, have students try to read the Formal Script in the Casual Voice (fast, slangy, high energy). It usually sounds sarcastic or mocking. This helps them realize that register is about Consistency between words and delivery.

Low Pitch

The "Wait For It..." Moment
Humor in English often relies on the Pause.
The Setup

Notice the slight pause before the punchline? That's the signal to laugh!
