Instructional Sequence

1. Introduction & Warm-Up

Briefly introduce the overhand throw and its importance in sports.
Lead warm-up: Jogging in place, arm circles (small & large), and light stretching.

2. Demonstration & Explanation

Demonstrate the overhand throw technique using the Throwing Technique Cards.
Break down steps: Stance, Grip, Arm Position, Step, Throw, and Follow-Through.

20 MIN

3. Throwing Game: Target Practice

Set up cones and hula hoops as targets at varying distances around the gym.
Divide students into small groups (3-4 per station).
Students rotate through stations, throwing soft balls at targets.
Focus: Form first, then accuracy. Use whistle to signal rotation.

5 MIN

4. Cool-Down & Reflection

Light stretching while seated in a circle.
Discussion: Which step was the most helpful? What did you find challenging?

5. Closure

Recap key cues (Step with opposite foot!).
Encourage practice during recess or at home.

Coach's Corner

Watch for "mirroring" — ensure students step with the foot opposite to their throwing arm. If accuracy is low, have them move closer to the target until their form is consistent.
