LESSON 1
Goal
Help students recognize physical signs of frustration and practice self-regulation.
Time
30-40 Minutes (Classroom or Gym)
Materials
Team Feelings Slides, "My Sports Face" Worksheets, Whistle.
The Hook (5 Mins)
"Imagine you are running a race. You are so fast! But then, you trip and fall. Oh no! Everyone passes you. How does your body feel?"
Ask students to make their "mad faces" or "sad faces."
Discuss: Does your heart beat fast? Do your hands clench?
Teaching Points
1. Naming the Feeling
Use the slides to define Frustration (wanting something but not getting it) and Excitement (overflowing happy energy).
2. The "Stop & Breathe" Technique
Teacher Script:
"When we feel like we might explode with anger, we use our Stop & Breathe power. One deep breath in like you're smelling a flower, and one long breath out like you're blowing out birthday candles."
Role-Play Scenarios
Scenario A
You are playing Tag and someone says 'You're out!' but you think you weren't touched.
Scenario B
Your team is about to win, but then the other team scores at the last second.
Scaffolding
Provide 'Emotion Cards' with pictures for non-verbal students to point to their current feeling.
Extension
Challenge students to identify feelings in teammates, not just themselves.

Lesson 2
Skill
I-Statements: Clear, assertive, and respectful verbal communication.
Goal
Students will use a 3-part script to solve a simulated playground conflict.
Script
"I feel... when you... please..."
The Lesson Intro (10 Mins)
1. The "Mean Voice" vs. "Magic Voice": Model yelling "HEY STOP IT!" versus saying "I feel frustrated when you push in line, please wait your turn." Ask which one helps the game stay fun.
2. Breakdown the Script: Use the slides to show the three parts. Emphasize that "Please" is the magic closer.
Guided Partner Drills (15 Mins)
Pair students up. Assign a "Problem" from the list below. Students must take turns being the speaker and the listener.
Conflict 1
Your partner takes the ball away before you can pass it.
Conflict 2
Your partner tag you too hard during a game of tag.
Teacher Tip:
"Remind students to look at their partner's eyes. Body language matters too!"
Check For Understanding
Can the student name the three parts of the Magic Sentence?
Is the student using a calm but firm voice?
Does the student understand why we use this (to keep playing)?
For ELL Students
Provide sentence strips with the first words filled in and pictures for the 'When you...' part (e.g., a picture of someone cutting in line).
For Advanced Students
Ask them to come up with a 4th part: "How can we fix it together?"

Lesson 3
Skill
Negotiation and fair decision-making protocols.
Logic
Reduce "dead time" in games spent on minor arguments.
Method
Rock-Paper-Scissors (RPS) - One round only.
Introduction (10 Mins)
"How many of you have ever had a game STOP because you and a friend were arguing about who was out?" (Hands raise). "That's boring! We want to play, not talk. Today we learn the Fastest Reset."
Demonstrate the hand shapes clearly.
Explain the "Shoot!" timing: Rock, Paper, Scissors, SHOOT! (Hands reveal on 'Shoot').
Emphasize: One round only.
The RPS Simulation (20 Mins)
Set up 4 stations with simple physical challenges. At each station, there is a "Conflict" they must solve with RPS before starting the task.
Station 1: The Race
"Who gets the lane with the red cone?"
Station 2: The Ball
"Who gets to hold the ball first?"
Station 3: The Boundary
"Was the beanbag on the line? (Toss it)."
Station 4: The Order
"Who goes first to jump over the hurdle?"
The Sportsmanship Script
Winning isn't just about the game, it's about how we end the argument.
Winner Says:
"Thanks for playing fair!"
Loser Says:
"Good luck! Let's play!"
For Motor Delays
Provide "RPS Cards" (Rock, Paper, Scissors) that students can flip over simultaneously if hand dexterity is a challenge.
Extension
Ask students to create a 4th "mystery move" and decide what it beats, introducing the concept of expanding rules fairly.

Lesson 4
Skill
Positive reinforcement and building team culture.
Goal
Students will use specific praise to encourage teammates during play.
Scoring
Incentivize "Kind Points" over "Game Points."
The "High Five" Intro (10 Mins)
"When a teammate misses a goal, they might feel 'disappointed' like we learned in Lesson 1. What can we say to help them feel better and keep playing?"
Specific Praise
"Nice pass to Sarah!" (Better than just "Good job")
Recovery Praise
"Great try! You'll get it next time!"
The Praise Relay (20 Mins)
Organize a simple ball-passing or relay game. Every time a student receives the ball, they MUST say one nice thing to the person who gave it to them before they can continue.
Teacher Monitoring Checklist:
Are they looking at their teammate?
Are they using their teammate's name?
Is the voice tone kind and excited?
Reflection Discussion
Ask the class:
"How did it feel when someone gave you a compliment?"
"Did you notice yourself trying harder when your team was cheering?"
"What was the best compliment you heard today?"
For Non-Verbal Students
Teach physical "Power Signs": Double Thumbs Up, High Five, or a fist bump as a form of non-verbal praise.
Extension
Have students identify one thing the other team did well, fostering overall sportsmanship.

Lesson 5
Tournament Format
Round-robin style (Small teams of 4-5). Simple games like Kickball, Tag, or Relay Races.
The Scoring Goal
Winning is defined as the team with the highest combined "Skill Score" and "Sportsmanship Score."
Master Scorecard (Reference)
Action Points What to look for? Goal / Point Scored +2 Game Points Ball crosses line / target hit. Magic Sentence Used +3 Sport Points Student uses script to solve conflict. RPS Decision +2 Sport Points Quick 1-round RPS to settle a tie. "Power Praise" +1 Sport Point Specific compliment to teammate or opponent. Arguing with Ref/Teammate -5 Sport Points Stopping play to argue/shout.
Facilitation Tips
Be the "Observer": Avoid stepping in immediately. Blow the whistle and ask, "How can we use our tools here?"
Narrate Success: "I love how Team Blue used Rock-Paper-Scissors to decide who started with the ball! That's 2 points for Blue!"
Focus on Effort: Award a "Spirit Award" at the end for the team that never stopped cheering, even if they lost every game.
Post-Game Debrief
"What was harder: scoring the goal or using the Magic Sentence when you were frustrated?"
Extension
Assign one student per team as the "Peacekeeper" who helps lead the RPS or Magic Word scripts.
