Wellness Blueprint Teacher Guide The Health Trifecta
Comprehensive Lesson Plan: Introduction to Total Health
Project No: 6-HEA-01
Grade: 06
Lesson Overview
This lesson introduces 6th-grade students to the concept of "Total Health." Often, students equate health only with physical fitness or the absence of disease. This lesson expands that definition to include mental/emotional and social well-being, visualizing them as a balanced triangle.
Essential Question
What does it truly mean to be 'healthy' in all areas of life?
Duration
60 - 75 Minutes
Learning Objectives
Define health as a combination of physical, mental, and social components.
Identify specific examples of behaviors for each health category.
Explain why balance between the three areas is crucial for overall well-being.
Materials Needed

Instructional Sequence
1. The Hook: Rapid Reaction
10 MIN
Ask: "What's the first thing you think of when you hear 'healthy'?" Use the **Health Trifecta Slide Deck** to transition from a purely physical focus to the full triangle.
2. Guided Reading: The Health Detective
15 MIN
Distribute the **Health Detective Reading Passage**. Have students identify Physical, Mental, and Social health clues in the story of Alex.
3. Creative Challenge: TikTok vs. Shield
20 MIN
Choose the activity that best fits your class vibe, or offer a choice between:
Trifecta TikTok Challenge: Students act as influencers and script three posts for their followers focusing on each health area. (Modern, creative writing focus).
Trifecta Shield Activity: Students draw symbols for their own health behaviors in a classic "shield" layout. (Visual arts, personal focus).
4. Reflection: Triangle Tales
15 MIN
Students analyze "Social-Only Sam" and then write their own balanced health blueprint on the **Triangle Tales Worksheet**.
5. Wrap Up: Triangle Check
5 MIN
Discuss: "If your social media feed only shows one side of the triangle, is it a true picture of health?"
Pro-Tips & Differentiation
Scaffolding
For the TikTok challenge, provide a "word bank" of hashtags for each category (e.g., #SleepSchedule for physical, #Journaling for mental).
Extension
Ask students to record one of their TikTok "scripts" as a real video if they have access to school-approved devices.

The Case of Alex's "Almost" Awesome Week
Alex was having a great week on the soccer field. On Monday, he scored two goals and felt more energetic than ever. He had been drinking plenty of water and getting to bed by 9:00 PM every night. His muscles felt strong, and he wasn't catching the cold that seemed to be going around his classroom. To anyone watching from the sidelines, Alex looked like the healthiest kid in the school.
But inside his head, things were a little different. Alex had a huge math test coming up on Friday, and he was feeling incredibly stressed. He found it hard to concentrate on his homework because he kept worrying that he would fail. Instead of talking to someone about his anxiety, he kept it all bottled up. By Wednesday, even though his body was physically fit, his mind was racing with negative thoughts.
To make matters worse, Alex had been ignoring his friends' texts all week. Usually, he loved hanging out with his neighbors after school, but his stress made him want to stay in his room alone. On Thursday, he got into a loud argument with his younger sister over something small. He felt disconnected from the people who usually supported him.
By Friday morning, Alex realized something important. He was physically strong, but his "Health Triangle" was totally out of shape. One side was very long, but the other two sides were shrinking. He realized that to be truly healthy, he needed to balance his physical energy with mental peace and social connections.
EVIDENCE LOG: CATEGORIZE THE CLUES
Look back at the underlined sections in the text. Sort Alex's behaviors into the correct category in the table below.

Detective's Conclusion:
In your own words, why couldn't Alex just rely on being "physically fit" to be healthy?

The Story of "Social-Only" Sam:
Sam is the life of the party! He spends every afternoon hanging out with friends, playing multiplayer games, and talking to his teammates. However, he only gets 4 hours of sleep a night because he's busy texting, and he feels constantly stressed about his messy room and unfinished homework.
1. Which side of Sam's triangle is the strongest/longest? Why?
2. Which sides of Sam's triangle are weak? What might happen to Sam if he doesn't fix them?
PART 2
My Blueprint
Think about your own life over the last week. In the space below, write a short paragraph describing one "Balanced Health Goal" you have. Choose one side of your triangle you want to strengthen and explain two specific actions you will take.
Self-Check: Did you include a Physical, Mental, or Social goal? Did you explain HOW you will achieve it?
