1. Materials
Use LEGOs, blocks, or recycled items to create a brand new ride.
2. Safety Catch
Your ride MUST have at least one line of symmetry to be "Safety Certified".
3. Inspect
Prove it! Show the "Safety Inspectors" exactly where your line is.

The Build: Symmetry Land Expansion
Remind students that "Safety Inspectors" (you or peers) will be checking for symmetry.
If using recyclables, encourage students to find pairs of objects (e.g., 2 same-size cups).
Walk around and ask: "Where is the mirror line on this?" or "How is this side identical to that side?"
Pro-Tips & Differentiation
Support: Provide "Line Guides" (yarn or tape) for students to physically lay across their model to check for symmetry.
Challenge: Ask advanced students to create a ride with multiple lines of symmetry (like the Ferris wheel or the Cracker octagon).
Common Misconceptions
"Symmetry is only vertical": Students often ignore horizontal or diagonal symmetry. Point out the loop-de-loop and square cracker examples.
"Color must be symmetrical": In engineering, weight/shape symmetry is most vital. Clarify if color must also match for your specific challenge.
