Detective Training Tips

The Dialogue Trap

Remind students that characters might say "I" or "me" in quotation marks, even in a 3rd Person story. They must look at the **narrator's** voice (the text outside of dialogue) to find the POV.

Scaffolding

For students needing support, have them highlight the pronouns in two different colors (e.g., green for 1st, blue for 3rd) before they even start cutting the snippets.
