PITCH: The Balloon Trick
TIGHT = HIGH
When the balloon neck is pulled tight, the air vibrates FAST. This makes a high sound!
LOOSE = LOW
When the balloon neck is loose, it vibrates SLOWLY. This makes a low sound!

Learning Objective
Students will experiment with vocal pitch (high/low) and volume (loud/soft) while understanding the physiological mechanics of singing through the "Human Balloon" analogy.

Warm-Up: Vocal Sirens (5 min)
Use the "Vocal Sirens" slide to lead students through sliding their voices from very low to very high and back down.
"Imagine your voice is a roller coaster! When we go up the track, our voices get higher and tighter. When we slide down, they get lower and looser. Let's try it on an 'ooh' sound!"

Play the segment from 3:05 to 3:27 of the "How Do We Sing?" video.
Key Discussion Points:
- Breath Control: How do professional singers make soft vs. bold sounds? (Controlling how much air they let out).
- Anatomy: Mention the Larynx (voice box) and Vocal Folds (the "rubber bands" of our throat).

Main Activity: The Human Balloon (15 min)
Part 1: Pitch
Connect body tension to pitch. Explain that high notes come from tight vocal folds, like pulling the balloon neck tight.
- • High: Stretch hands up, stand on tiptoes.
- • Low: Crouch down, relax shoulders.
Part 2: Volume
Practice volume without changing pitch. This is the hardest part for young students!
- • Tiny Mouse: Soft voice, same high/low.
- • Giant Bear: Bold voice, same high/low.

Closure: Guess the Pitch (5 min)
An ear-training game. You make a sound, they show the "Balloon Pose."

Students close eyes.

Teacher sings pitch.

Students "Pose" the pitch.
Differentiation Tips
For 1st Grade: Focus purely on the movement and the extremes of high/low. Don't worry about the anatomical terms yet.
For 3rd Grade: Challenge them to do "opposite" volume (High pitch + Tiny mouse vs. High pitch + Giant bear).
Common Misconception
Students often confuse High Pitch with Loud Volume. Constantly remind them that a high note can be a "tiny mouse" and a low note can be a "giant bear."
