4 Paper from the Past

Long ago, people did not have the smooth white paper we use today. Instead, they had to be creative with the materials they found in nature. Ancient Egyptians made a paper-like material called papyrus by layering thin strips of a marsh plant. In China, inventors later created paper by mixing tree bark and old rags into a pulp. In other parts of the world, people even used dried animal skins to record their history. While the methods have changed over thousands of years, the goal of creating a surface for writing has remained the same.
