Prep
Cut red yarn, prep paper plates.

Warm-Up: The Floor is Magma!
Since we are currently inside the classroom, imagine we are deep INSIDE the Earth where it is hot!
- Students must stay on "cool rocks" (mats, chairs, or designated spots).
- The floor is officially MAGMA (orange, hot, and inside!).
- Practice saying the word "Magma" in a deep, booming voice while pointing down.

Tell students: "When the magma breaks through the surface and reaches the air, I want everyone to shout 'LAVA!' and put your hands in the air!"

Activity: Inside Out Plates
Materials Needed:
Paper Plates Orange/Red Crayons Red Yarn (Lava) Glue & Labels
Steps:
- Color the center circle ORANGE. Label it MAGMA.
- Glue red yarn pieces streaming over the edges.
- Label the yarn on the edges LAVA.

Closure & Extension
Vocabulary Check:
"Turn to a partner. Use your plate to show them: Where is the magma? Where is the lava? What's the difference?"
Early Finisher / Extension
Use red playdough to build a volcano. Squeeze "magma" from the middle so it spills out and becomes "lava" on the sides.
