The captain looks at the old map. He makes an inference about where the treasure is hidden. He uses text evidence from the labels on the map. I predict he will find the gold today!

I need to compose a story about our trip. My audience is my family back home. Improving my literacy skills helps me write better letters to them.

Passage 3: Steering the Ship

My purpose for reading the compass is to stay safe. I read the directions with fluency so I don't make mistakes. My comprehension of the ship's tools is very important.

Passage 4: Reading Time

This book about sharks is my self-selected text. I will annotate the pages with my notes. My response to the story is that I want to learn more about the ocean.
