The Long Journey

Sofia had always dreamed of visiting the mountains, but she never imagined the journey would be so difficult. The path was steep and rocky, and each step required careful attention. As she climbed higher, the air grew thinner, making it harder to breathe.

At first, Sofia felt confident. She had trained for weeks and believed she was ready. However, after several hours of climbing, her legs began to ache, and doubt started to creep into her thoughts. She wondered if she should turn back.

Should Schools Ban Junk Food?

Supporters of banning junk food argue that schools should promote healthy eating habits. They believe that when students have access to nutritious meals, they are more likely to develop better eating patterns. In addition, research shows that healthy diets can improve concentration and energy levels, which may lead to better academic performance.

Another reason supporters favor banning junk food is that schools play an important role in shaping student behavior. Since students spend a large portion of their day at school, the choices available to them can influence their habits long-term.

However, some people disagree with banning junk food. They argue that students should have the freedom to make their own choices. Instead of removing unhealthy options completely, these individuals believe schools should teach students how to make balanced decisions.

Others also point out that banning junk food may not stop students from eating it. Students could still bring snacks from home, making the policy less effective than intended.

Although both sides present strong arguments, the decision to ban junk food depends on balancing health goals with personal choice.

The Growth of Cities

Cities have grown rapidly over the past century. As populations increase, more people are moving from rural areas to urban environments in search of jobs, education, and opportunities.

One reason for this growth is economic opportunity. Cities often offer a wide variety of jobs in industries such as technology, healthcare, and business. This attracts people who are looking for better employment options.

In addition, cities provide access to education and services. Many universities, hospitals, and cultural institutions are located in urban areas, making them appealing places to live.

However, rapid growth also creates challenges. One major issue is overcrowding. As more people move into cities, housing can become limited and expensive. This can lead to crowded living conditions.

Another challenge is pollution. Increased traffic and industrial activity can contribute to poor air quality, which affects both the environment and people’s health.

Despite these challenges, cities continue to expand. Governments and planners are working to find solutions, such as improving public transportation and building more housing, to support growing populations.

Passage Six

The Missing Dog

Lena had just finished her homework when she noticed something unusual outside her window. A small dog was wandering down the street, looking lost and frightened. Its fur was dirty, and it kept stopping to look around as if searching for something.

Lena quickly grabbed her jacket and went outside. As she approached the dog, it stepped back cautiously. She spoke softly and moved slowly, trying not to scare it away. After a few minutes, the dog seemed to trust her and allowed her to come closer.

Lena noticed a tag on the dog’s collar. It had a name—“Buddy”—and a phone number. She carefully led the dog back to her house and called the number.

A woman answered and sounded worried. When Lena explained, the woman let out a sigh of relief. She had been searching for Buddy all afternoon.

Soon, the owner arrived and thanked Lena for her kindness. As Lena watched Buddy happily return home, she felt proud. She realized that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
