Cipher Quest
Operation: Collaboration
The Mission
Primary Objective
Work with your squad to locate and solve 10 Hidden Ciphers scattered throughout the room.
Secondary Objective
Recover the Master Key by decoding the results of your problem-solving.
"No single mind can unlock the vault. Communication is your strongest tool."
Rules of Engagement
Navigate
Each cipher contains a clue to the next location. If you skip one, you lose the trail.
Communicate
Every team member must contribute to the logic. Ensure everyone understands the solution.
Precision
Numerical accuracy is critical. A single error will corrupt the Master Key.

The Master Key Extraction
To reveal the Master Key, combine your Cipher Values using the algorithm below:
\[ \text{Key} = \frac{(V_{02} + V_{05} + V_{08}) \times V_{10}}{\sqrt{V_{03} \times V_{06}}} + (V_{01} + V_{04} + V_{07} - V_{09}) \]

Mission Debrief (Collaboration Reflection)
1. Which cipher required the most group discussion? Why?
2. How did your squad divide tasks during the hunt?
Scavenger Hunt Cards
01
The Sequence Logic
Analyze the following arithmetic sequence: 7, 13, 19, 25, ... What is the 8th term in this sequence?
Next Clue: Search near the sharpening station.
02
The Equality Equation
Find the value of \(x\) that satisfies the following equation: \(5x - 15 = 2x + 15\)
Next Clue: Look where the calculators are stored.
03
The Exponential Code
Solve for \(x\): \(2^{(x+3)} = 32\)
Next Clue: Behind the teacher's podium.
04
The Prime Mystery
Multiply the first three prime numbers together. Add the square root of 64 to the result. What is the final value?
Next Clue: Check the classroom calendar.
05
The Variable Vault
If \(3a - 7 = 11\), and \(b = 2a + 4\), what is the value of \(b\)?
Next Clue: Look under a desk in the back row.
06
The Slope Secret
Find the slope of the line that passes through the points \((2, 10)\) and \((5, 34)\).
Next Clue: Near the emergency exit map.
07
The Factoring Find
Factor the quadratic expression: \(x^2 - 9x + 20\) The zeros of this expression are the possible values. What is the larger zero?
Next Clue: By the window with the most sunlight.
08
The Graphing Grid
The line representing the linear equation \(y = 3x - 1\) is graphed on a coordinate plane. What is the \(y\)-coordinate of the point where the line intersects the vertical line \(x = 5\)?
Next Clue: On the side of the filing cabinet.
09
The Pattern Protocol
Follow the pattern: 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, ... What is the next number in the sequence?
Next Clue: Near the bookshelf labeled "Non-Fiction".
10
The Final Function
A car travels at a constant speed of \(s\) miles per hour. If it covers 240 miles in 3 hours, what is its speed?
MISSION COMPLETE: Return to your station to calculate the Master Key.

Activity Overview
The "Cipher Quest" is a collaborative scavenger hunt focusing on Algebra 1 review concepts. Students work in "Squads" to find and solve 10 hidden ciphers, eventually combining their answers into a Master Key formula.
Setup Instructions
- Print & Cut: Print the Scavenger Hunt Cards. Cut them into individual cards.
- Staging: Tape the 10 cards in the locations mentioned on the cards. Start squads at different cards to prevent bottlenecks.

Cipher 06: 8
Cipher 02: 10
Cipher 07: 5

Master Key Solution Path (Algebra 1 Values)
PART 1: (V02+V05+V08) * V10 / SQRT(V03*V06)
(10 + 16 + 14) * 80 / SQRT(2 * 8) = 40 * 80 / 4 = 800
PART 2: V01 + V04 + V07 - V09
49 + 38 + 5 - 42 = 50
FINAL KEY = 800 + 50 = 850
