Objective

Students will learn why sharing is important and practice simple sharing skills by listening to a story, discussing real-life examples, and role-playing sharing scenarios.

Why This Matters

Developing sharing habits helps 1st graders build positive friendships, practice empathy, and contribute to a caring classroom community.

Prep & Materials

Print and cut out Discussion Prompt Cards and Role-Play Scenario Cards
Display the Sharing Scenario Chart on a whiteboard or poster
Gather the Sharing Picture Book
Arrange seating for circle time

Instructional Approach

2 MIN

Introduction

Gather students in a circle and greet them warmly.
Ask: "What does sharing mean?" and elicit a few responses.
Explain: "Today we’ll learn why sharing helps us be good friends!"

4 MIN

Story Time

Show the cover of the Sharing Picture Book and read aloud.
Pause to point out sharing and ask: "How did sharing make them feel?"
Emphasize key sentences about kindness and helping others.

3 MIN

Discussion

Shuffle the Discussion Prompt Cards.
Draw a card and invite 2–3 students to share their ideas.
Record ideas briefly on the Sharing Scenario Chart.

4 MIN

Role-Play Practice

Pair students and give each pair a Role-Play Scenario Card.
Instruct pairs to act out the situation and switch roles.
Circulate, praise sharing words ("Here you go!"), and guide polite behaviors.

2 MIN

Reflect and Close

Review the Sharing Scenario Chart in the circle.
Ask: "How did it feel to share?" and invite responses.
Congratulate students and encourage sharing throughout the day.
