Defining the Rupture

A rupture is a break in the group alliance or a threat to safety caused by:

"The rupture isn't the problem. The failure to address the rupture is the problem."

Maintain Connection while Naming Harm

Used when there is a relationship and the goal is education & continued group belonging.

The Script:

"I'm curious about the word you just used. Can we pause and look at how that might land for others here?"

Used when harm is significant, immediate safety is compromised, or a clear boundary must be set.

The Script:

"That statement is harmful and creates an unsafe environment. We need to stop right here and address this."

Holding the Group Container

Pay attention to the non-verbal shift in the room (silence, eye rolls, withdrawal).

Interrupt the flow. Don't let the moment pass in hopes it "goes away."

Check in with the targeted person first, then the group, then the person who caused harm.

"Observe the non-verbal withdrawal of the group member at 02:45. What was the exact moment safety was lost?"
