Lesson 5: Final Shape Detective Game

How to Play: Cut out these cards. Read the "Mystery Clue" aloud. Students can use their fingers to show the number of sides, or hold up a hand-drawn version of the shape. Award "Investigator Points" for correct guesses using mathematical terms (sides, vertices, curved, straight)!

Clue #1

"I have NO straight sides. I am perfectly curved and look like a donut. What am I?"

Answer: CIRCLE

Clue #2

"I have 3 straight sides and 3 pointy vertices. I look like a slice of pizza. What am I?"

Answer: TRIANGLE

Clue #3

"I have 4 straight sides. All of my sides are the EXACT SAME length. What am I?"

Answer: SQUARE

Clue #4

"I have 4 straight sides and 4 square corners. Two of my sides are long and two are short. What am I?"

Answer: RECTANGLE

Clue #5 (Expert!)

"I have 6 straight sides and 6 vertices. I look like a honey bee's home. What am I?"

Answer: HEXAGON

Clue #6 (Expert!)

"I have 4 sides. My top is flat and short, but my bottom is wide and long. What am I?"

Answer: TRAPEZOID
