Horizontal Synthesis

INCORRECT APPROACH

"Author A says X. Author B says Y. Author C says Z."

This is a book report, not a scholarly synthesis.

SCHOLARLY APPROACH

"Theme 1 is debated by A and B, while C provides a counter-perspective based on..."

This tells a story of the scholarly field.

A tool for horizontal reading. It forces you to compare sources across specific variables or themes rather than reading them in isolation.

Don't just use "Summary". Use categories that matter to your research.

You have five abstract snippets that seem unrelated. Your task: Find the common thematic thread that connects at least three of them.
