Lesson 3: Save the Drama Aggression

Objectives

Define relational aggression (social exclusion, manipulation).
Identify roles: Bully, Victim, Bystander, Upstander.
Practice "Upstander" skills to support the herd.

Procedure

1. The "Invisible" Llama (10 mins)

Discuss feeling left out (anonymously). Define relational aggression: hurting others' social status or friendships through exclusion or manipulation.

2. Roles in the Herd (10 mins)

Use slides to define roles. Focus heavily on the "Upstander" (The Herd Hero). Discuss how a single Upstander can stop drama 57% of the time.

3. Upstander Action (15 mins)

Pass out Upstander Scenarios Activity. In pairs, practice the "P" techniques: Partner with the victim, Pause the gossip, or Promote something else.

4. Closing (5 mins)

Complete Reflection Log 3. Focus on identifying their personal Upstander "Superpower" (e.g., being a quiet supporter or a vocal leader).

Facilitator Tip: Remind students that they don't have to be "best friends" with everyone, but they must be kind. "You can't be friends with the whole world, but you can be friendly to the whole world."
