Instructional Steps
1
Introduction: What Makes You YOU?
10 mins
Begin by asking students what makes them special. Guide a brief discussion about visible differences (hair color, eye color) and invisible differences (favorite foods, hobbies).
Introduce the idea of everyone being like a "unique unicorn" —special and wonderful in their own way.
Use the first few slides of the Slide Deck to facilitate this discussion.
2
My Unicorn Horn Activity
20 mins
Distribute the My Unicorn Horn Activity Worksheet and art supplies. Explain that each student will create a unicorn horn that represents something unique about them.
Encourage drawing, using specific colors, or writing (with help). Play calm, inspiring music while students work. Circulate to offer assistance.
As students finish, have them share their horns with a partner or small group.
3
Circle Time: Celebrating Differences
15 mins
Gather students in a circle with their horns. Use the Discussion Starters to guide a conversation about how all our differences make our classroom more interesting and fun.
Use the middle slides of the Slide Deck to reinforce concepts of belonging and kindness.
4
Unicorn Matching Game
10 mins
Introduce the Unicorn Matching Game Cards . Explain that just like unicorns come in different colors and patterns but still belong in the herd, we all belong in our classroom community.
Play in small groups, focusing on identifying the special traits that make each pair match.
