Instructional Steps
1
Warm-up: Mindful Breathing
5 Mins
Begin with a brief mindful breathing exercise. Guide students to close their eyes and take three slow, deep breaths. Explain that this helps calm their bodies and minds, which is a great first step when feeling impatient. (Refer to Script for specific prompts.)
2
Define Patience
5 Mins
Engage students in a discussion about what patience means. Use the slides to define it as "waiting without getting upset." Ask for real-life examples of when they need patience at home or school. (Refer to Script for specific prompts.)
3
Timed Marble Game Challenge
10 Mins
Introduce the game rules. Emphasize that the goal is self-control, not just speed. Observe student reactions as they face the "pressure" of the timer and the difficulty of the task. (Refer to Game Guide for rules.)
4
Strategy Share & Reflection
10 Mins
Lead a discussion about challenges faced during the game. Identify "Patience Power-Ups" (e.g., breathing, slowing down, encouraging words) that worked. (Refer to Slides for final takeaway.)

Part 1: Mindful Breathing
Say to students:
"Good morning/afternoon, everyone! Today, we're going to talk about a really important skill called patience . But before we dive in, let's take a moment to get our bodies and minds ready. I want everyone to find a comfortable position, either sitting up straight or resting your hands on your desk. You can close your eyes gently, or just look down at your lap if that feels better."
Instructional Prompts:
"Now, let's take three slow, deep breaths together. Inhale deeply through your nose, feeling your belly expand... hold it for a moment... and then slowly exhale through your mouth, letting all the air out. Let's do that two more times. Ready? In... hold... out. And again, in... hold... out."
Check-in:
"How do you feel? A little calmer? This is a great trick we can use anytime we start to feel a little frustrated or impatient. It helps us calm our bodies and minds, which is the first step to practicing patience."
5 Minutes
Part 2: Defining Patience
Guide Discussion:
"Open your eyes, everyone. Now that we're a bit more relaxed, let's talk about that word: patience . Take a look at our slides. What do you think patience means? What does it look like when someone is being patient?"
Teacher Note:
Allow students to share. Guide them towards a definition like: "Patience is when you can wait calmly without getting upset, even when things are taking a long time or are difficult."
Expanding on the concept:
"Excellent ideas! So, why do you think patience is important in our lives? When do you need patience at school, at home, or when playing with friends? How does it feel in your body when you are being patient? How about when you are feeling impatient?"

Part 3: The Challenge
Set the Stage:
"Alright, everyone, we're going to put our patience into practice with a fun challenge! We're going to play the Marble Balance Game . The goal is to work together, slowly and carefully, to get a marble from one side to the other. It's not about speed, it's about control and cooperation. And yes, it will be timed, not to see who is fastest, but to give us a real chance to practice patience under a little pressure!"
While students play:
"Remember, the real win here is practicing how to stay calm and focused, even when it feels tricky! Let's see what strategies you use."

Steady Hands Challenge
2:00
Time Limit
Materials
1-2 Marbles
4-6 Cardboard tubes
Masking tape
Timer
The Objective
Work together to guide a marble from the Start Line to the End Line using only your tubes. No hands allowed!
The Rules
No Touching: If your hand touches the marble, go back to Start.
No Dropping: If the marble falls, everyone returns to the Start line.
No Holding: The marble must keep moving! Max 3 seconds per tube.
How to Play
1
Everyone holds 1-2 tube sections and lines up between the tape markers.
2
Create a continuous track. Tilt your tube to roll the marble to your teammate.
3
The next person must be ready to "catch" it with their tube and keep it rolling!
4
If the marble falls, stay calm! Take a breath, say "it's okay," and restart.
Patience Power-Ups
Go Slow
Rushing causes mistakes. Take your time to get it right.
Communicate
Say "ready" or "your turn" to help your teammate prepare.
Stay Focused
Eyes on the marble! Don't look at the clock or other teams.
Be Kind
Encourage your friends. Mistakes are part of the game!
