Warm-Up: Favorite Flavors
Ask students to name their favorite meal and the ingredients inside it. Use a pizza or a cake as an example.
"What happens if we take away the flour from a cake? What if we leave the cheese off a pizza? Is it still the same meal?"
10 Minutes
Video Viewing & Discussion
Watch the video from 0:00 – 1:04. Pause when the narrator introduces the analogy of planetary health as a meal.
Key Question: "In our nature soup, what are some 'ingredients' we might find in our local area?"
25 Minutes
Main Activity: Biodiversity Soup
Students use magazines to find "ingredients" (plants, animals, fungi) to put into their pot. For each ingredient, they must add a label explaining its job in the ecosystem.
Worms: Mix the soil so plants can grow strong.
Bees: Help flowers and food grow (pollination).
05 Minutes
Closure: The Essential Ingredient
Students share one ingredient they included and explain why the Earth can't do without it. Emphasize that every organism, big or small, plays a part.
