Over time, forests get messy:
- Dead leaves
- Old logs
- Tall, thick grass
The Big Problem
All this stuff blocks the ground.
NO SUNLIGHT!

A fire that happens naturally in the woods.
Nutrients
Healthy "vitamins" plants get from soil.
Decomposers
Living things that break down dead stuff slowly.
Ash
The "baby food" left after a fire burns wood.
