Review the 'Visual Daily Schedule' clearly. Explain any new routines.
"Today, our first activity is... What do you notice is different about our schedule?"
Reassure them: "It's okay to have questions! We'll practice this together."

Guide the student through the first scheduled activity with simple, clear instructions.
Provide specific praise: "Great job looking at the schedule to see what's next!"

Teacher Positioning
Sit at the student's eye level. Maintain a warm, calm, and welcoming expression. Use a gentle but confident tone of voice. This session is about building safety and predictability.

Warm-Up: Welcome & Check-in (5 min)
Greeting
"Welcome back, [Student Name]! I'm so glad to see you today! We've missed having you in class."
The 'How' of it
"What was something cool you learned or enjoyed doing while you were working on independent study? I'd love to hear about it."
Pause for response. Actively listen and engage with their answer to re-establish rapport.
Emotional Check-in
"Now that you're back with us, I want to see how you're feeling about being here today. Can you show me on our 'Emotional Check-in Chart' how you're feeling?"
Acknowledge their feeling without judgment. E.g., "I see you're feeling a bit unsure. That's totally okay. We'll go at your pace today."

Point to the visual schedule or the specific slide as you speak.
The Plan
"Alright, let's look at our special modified schedule for today. First, we are going to start with some reading time. Then, we have math centers right after."
Encouraging Agency
